Summer Session
All Branches - June 24 through August 2, 2013
Six weeks of individual instruction and class instruction. Lessons are offered during daytime hours at all branch locations and on selected evenings at some locations.
Summer Jam Camp sponsored by PECO
Session I: June 24 - July 3, 2013 (8 days)
Session II: July 8 to July 19, 2013 (10 days)
Ages 12-18
9 AM to 3 PM, Mary Louise Curtis Branch
Tuition: Session I, $560; Session II, $700
This intensive two-week session is for students who play drums, electric guitar, bass, and keyboard, as well as for vocalists and songwriters. Students form bands, record original works in a professional studio, and learn all aspects of producing and playing jazz, blues and rock music with a group. The camps wraps up with a live rock show performance for family friends at a local venue.
Summer Chamber Music Camp
Strings and Woodwinds
June 24 -28, 2013
Strings: ages 8-12, Woodwinds: ages 10-18
9 AM to 12:30 PM, Monday through Friday, Willow Grove Branch
Tuition: $330
These intensive sessions provide small ensemble experience for string or woodwind players. Students will receive individual attention from faculty with emphasis on teamwork, good musicianship, careful tuning and rhythm, and the musical satisfaction of playing in a small group. No previous ensemble experience is necessary.
String auditions will be held on Saturday, May 11, 9 AM - 12 PM. Woodwind auditions will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 5 PM- 7:30 PM. Call 215.320.2630 for audition requirements and to schedule your 10-minute placement audition slot.
Summer Strings Camp
June 24 – 28, 2013
Ages 7 – 14
9 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday, Wynnefield Branch
Tuition: $375
This camp for beginning and intermediate string students, explores string orchestra music and small chamber opportunities through rehearsals and related arts activities. The daily schedule includes a full ensemble rehearsal, sectionals, visual arts and playwriting. Camp concludes with a performance incorporating student’s plays and art with the string orchestra.
Summer Dance Camp
July 8 – 12, 2013
Ballet: Ages 6 – 12
9 AM to 12 PM, Monday through Friday, Wynnefield Branch
Tuition: $175
This camp offers two levels of instruction during a one-week session. Creative Movement will introduce elements of space, time and energy to very young students and help them develop creative potential and build self-esteem. Ballet will focus on fundamentals through a combination of French, Russian and Italian techniques. Modern dance, yoga and choreography classes will also be incorporated throughout the week.
Summer Jazz Camp
July 29 – August 2, 2013
Ages 12 – 18
9 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday, Wynnefield Branch
Tuition: $375
This is a one-week session for students who play drums, electric guitar, bass, keyboard, and wind and string instruments. Students form small ensembles based on skill level, study big band playing and technique, jazz standards, jazz improvisation, history and composition. Camp focuses on introducing and developing strong jazz skills and learning how to play in an ensemble and concludes with a final performance at a local venue.
